Linda has key workshop role

Linda Cox, who leads a team which takes transport to isolated areas of Shropshire, has been given a key role in a Newcastle workshop on bus services.
The workshop is facilitated by the authors of the DRT Good Practice Guide (Dr J F Brake, Dr C Mulley and Prof J D Nelson) from the Transport Operations Research Group within the School of Civil Engineering at Newcastle University. The group recently completed the Good Practice Guide to Implementing Demand Responsive Transport services. . see details, with sponsorship from the Department for Transport.
Linda will join other experts on a panel answering questions on Demand Responsive Transport at the event to be held in March 2007.
Demand Responsive Transport can help meet the needs of those who do not have access to a car, and are not within useful distance of a scheduled bus service. Within Shropshire there are a number of such schemes with the 49Link service in the Craven Arms area being a showcase for their success.
Linda Cox commented, “In a largely rural area this type of service is helping the Government reach key targets of accessibility for people to access such services as healthcare, leisure facilities and shopping.
Unlike a regular bus service, the 49Link will pick someone up at their home and take them where they need to go, at a time that is convenient for them.”
To find out more about the 49Link please visit www.49link.co.uk or see the associated sites section on this page.
